Inspired by an event of the same name that took place at DC Art Center twenty years before, I organized Midnight to Dawn at my studio. The event consisted of nine artists, including myself, performing in succession throughout the night. We chose the order at random right before we began and completed two cycles of performances. The event was invite-only, so the audience was just the other performers and a few friends- as such, the event was extremely intimate, ritualistic, and strong bonds have been developed as a result. The unusual structure and sense of safety of the event compelled artists to take great risks with their work. I organized this a week before I was forced out of my space, a bittersweet celebration of experimental performance and curating. This image shows 9 of the 18 performances that took place.
