Installations

Aether Art Projects is presenting two separate installations at Lightbox for Lumen8Anacostia.  The pink thread and ribbon web interventions installed site-wide are part of the Subtle Force Series by Carolyn Becker. The Subtle Force Series functions as an extension of her performance work, continuing the limits of her physical body and beyond the time of each performance.  Carolyn will perform Threads Part 3 at 5:30pm.  Between Us and Threads by Eames Armstrong and Renée Regan is a four-flight stairwell installation in response to ideas and questions raised by Carolyn's work.  Between Us and Threads takes Carolyn's exploration of space intervention and the relationship of installation to the body and performance as inspiration and moves to collaboration with interest in themes of drawing and painting.  Between Us and Threads is a string drawing that incorporates time and travels through space.  Each line becomes a subject, creating abstract stories as lines and color interact. The railing is painted white like a blank canvas and the bottom of the stairs melts off into a celebration of wet material.  The viewer performs engagement with the work by walking the stairs, activating a functional space in a new way.
